Last Tuesday, February 4th was the official private screening of The One's pilot at the Ministry of Culture in Lima (Peru). Among the guests were producers, directors, casting directors and investors, along with the talented crew and cast that made this pilot possible.
Su Hananel and Mau Amayo, the show's creators, executive producers and leads, and Bismarck Rojas, director and executive producer, were the hosts of the event that launches the beginning of their journey to sell the show to an international streaming platform.
“We want Lima to be the next hub of foreign entertainment investment. We are including the city as part of the story, we want to show what sets us apart as Peruvians, but also, what brings us, Latin-americans together, showing what we have in common with other big cities in this region in terms of culture. Our goal is that both men and women can connect and identify with the issues and characters portrayed in the show", says Bismarck Rojas, director and founder of Veintiuno Films.
This comedy is all about questions, such as why turning 30 has become so relevant to people between 25 and 35 years old or why are we are afraid of growing up or the pressure there is to "have it all" (the best job, the perfect family, house or car) before turning 30, which is very common nowadays.
All these questions and more are a key element in the journey that two opposite women will begin when their worlds collapse after very significant relationships for them come to an end without a warning. While they try put their lives back together, their differents points of view about life will emerge and the audience will be in the front row to watch, accompany them and draw their own conclusions.
“We decided we wanted to make a hyper-realistic comedy, which basically means, we wanted it to feel as realistic as possible, getting away from clichés and remaining organic and authentic. We were inspired by what we love from American comedies”, add Mau Amayo and Su Hananel. The result is a mix between Two broke girls and Grace and Frankie, but in a similar tone of Master of None.
Thanks to the grant give by the Ministry of Culture and the sponsorship of national and international brands, the pilot was shot in 2019, following all the technical international guidelines set for streaming platforms.
